Shivaji injured Mughal commander Shaista Khan when the latter was taking rest at Puna-palace during night. This enraged the Mughal Emperor who deputed Raja Jai Singh to crush Shivaji. Shivaji surrendered and was sent to the Mughal court by the Raja. Wily Aurangzeb imprisoned the Maratha leader who escaped from the confinement. At last treaty was arranged.
