  This drama is based on a story entitled KUNALAVDAN of the famous ancient Buddhist text DIVYAVADAN . Prince Kunal was the son of Magadhan Emperor Ashok. Kunnalís mother was Padmavati who died later on.. Kunal was sent to quell a revolt at Taxila where he was successful in establishing the imperial authority but he had to lose his eyes on account of a conspiracy hatched against him. He left Taxila with his wife Kanchan. Wandering as a beggar, he reached Patliputra and met the Emperor. The drama is of pathos and sacrifice.
