Kunwar Singh, aged 80, picked up arms against the Britishers in 1857 and defeated eight noted Generals at different places. He extended his authority upto Azamgarh. Even Lord Canning could not find his passage to Calcutta. Kunwar Singh severed his own hand with his sword when he was injured while crossing the Ganges. He died at free Jagdishpur while his brother Amar Singh carried on the battle.
